‘[REC] 4: Apocalypse’, the follow up to 2012’s ‘[REC] 3: Genisis’, follows TV reporter Angela Vidal (Velasco) as she is  rescued from a quarantined, zombie infested building. Angela is then transported, along with the men who rescued her, to a converted oil tanker out at sea. The boat has been converted into a floating medical research lab. The doctors on board believe that Angela may be carrying the key to curing the virus, a parasite. When someone lets loose an infected test subject, the virus spreads through the passengers, Angela and a few uninfected survivors must band together and  fight to survive. Something tells me we will see another movie in the franchise, the ending was left open and set up perfectly for another movie, which I would be happy to watch.

Director Jaume Balaguero co-wrote ‘[REC] 4’ along side Manu Diez, who also wrote ‘[REC] 2’, did an amazing job of creating a zombie/infection movie that really makes for a great viewing experience. The cast, Manuela Velasco ([REC] 1 and 2), Paco Manzanedo (Omnivores), Hector Colome (The Haunting), Ismael Fritschi (Omnivores), Crispulo Cabezas (Barrio) and Caelos Zabala (Torapia), all did a great job in their appointed roles.

I have to say ‘[REC] 4’ was very entertaining.  If you’re a fan of fast zombies (I am), this movie will be right up you alley. Not only were theses zombies fast, brutal and hungry, they were hard to kill, with few guns available most of the weapons were things they found around the ship, including a boat motor. The special effects department deserve a pat on the back, the props and scenes and the zombies looked great. The zombie monkeys were creepy as hell! Not only were the zombies great, the story line was a good one and not one we’ve seen a hundred times. The franchise flows seamlessly from sequel to sequel, which is rare. The action in ‘[REC] 4’ was non-stop and bloody, just like it should be in a zombie movie. The only complaint I have is that the movie was not available in an English version, I hate subtitles. Other than that I was very pleased, I would happily recommend ‘[REC] 4’ to any zombie fan.
