Eli Roth’s 2002 film ‘Cabin Fever’ is being revamped by director Travis Zariwny. IFC Midnight has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the film, which will be released some time in 2016.

In the original film Five friends rent a secluded cabin in the woods. The friends soon begin to show symptoms of a fast spreading flesh eating virus. Their trip goes from bad to worse when they not only have to deal with the virus, but the must also deal with the deranged locals.

Gage Golightly, Mathew Daddario, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Randy Sculman, Louise Linton, Ted Pfeifer and George Griffith star in the new version. Eli Roth will reportedly be making a cameo in the version.  Bloody Disgusting quoted Zariwny as saying  “It was a great opportunity to recreate an iconic film for a new generation of fans. I am a die hard fan of horror films and the king of horror Eli Roth trusted me to re-imagine his film. I was not going to fail.” In March Roth said he was “blown away” by the remake. Roth will be serving as Executive Producer for the new ‘Cabin Fever’.

I’m not sure why there was a need to reboot ‘Cabin Fever’. Personally, I love the original film and all of it’s gory goodness. Let’s hope that Zariwny does it justice.
