The writing/directing team of Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, who were behind indie-horror hit Starry Eyes have entered into negotiations to make the sequel to 2013’s supernatural thriller Mama. Universal is eager to get the project under way according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mama followed to young sisters who had spent five years alone in an abandoned home deep in the woods, but where they really alone? The girls are haunted by a ghastly mother figure that they call “Mama”. When the girls are found and sent to live with their uncle, Mama came with them. Now, as the girls try to adjust to their new life Mama is causing problems. She doesn’t want to let them go.
The original was directed by Andres Muschietti, with Guillermo del Toro serving as executive producer. The film starred Jessica Chastain, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Megan Charpentier and Isabelle Nelisse.
