Guillermo do Toro is no longer in the directors chair for Pacific Rim 2. The good new is that Steven DeKnight (Daredevil) has taken over. The project has also finally found a new writer to pen the monster movie. Derek Connolly, co-writer of Jurassic World, has signed on to pen the script, THR has reported. The previous scripts were written by del Toro, Jon Spaihts, and Zak Penn. It is unclear at this time if Connolly was brought in to write a new script or expand on an existing version.

According to IMDb Charlie Hunnam is rumored to be returning for the sequel as is actor Ron Perlman. Max Martini will reprise his role as Herc Hansen. Hunnam and Perlman not only worked together on the first Pacific Rim movie, they co-starred in the hit motorcycle-gang series Sons of Anarchy, where Perlman played the role of Charlie Hunnam’s character’s stepfather.

Guillermo del Toro has not left the project completely. He will serve as producer along with Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Jon Jasni. Pacific Rim 2 is still set to film this Fall, as far as we know. We will post an update  as soon as we know more.
