Fans of ‘Deadpool’ were elated to learn that the foul-mouthed anti-hero would be getting a sequel by the same team who penned the original, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Well, fans will be waiting a little longer than they expected to see ‘Deadpool’ back in action. Reese and Wernick have another project they have been working on, ‘Zombieland 2’, and it’s finally moving forward.
We reported back in April that ‘Zombieland 2’ was one of the projects announced by Sony at CinemaCon, but it’s great to hear from the screenwriters themselves that the film is picking up momentum.
The sequel to 2009’s zombie hit has been in the works since the first film’s release. Though there have been a few speed-bumps, it seems the sequel is finally coming together. During a recent episode of AMC’s ‘Geeking Out’ with Kevin Smith and Greg Grunberg the screenwriting duo revealed that they are indeed currently working on ‘Zombieland 2’.
That is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now. We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.
You read that right, it seems Woody Harrelson will be returning to reprise his role as “Tallahassee”. Not only do they have a script, they have a cast, though they have not been announced yet. So far, there has been no mention of any other cast returning besides Harrelson. The original film co-starred Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abagail Breslin, and Amber Heard, with a cameo by Bill Murray.
I’ll be honest, I love ‘Zombieland’ the balance of humor, drama and gore was perfect. When I first heard a sequel was in the works the cast was my major concern. It wouldn’t be the same without Harrelson and I’m tickled pink that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are the creative force behind ‘Zombieland 2’. They did a fantastic job with the original and with ‘Deadpool’.
