Immediately after ‘Jurassic World’ was released it was announced that a sequel would follow. A few details surrounding ‘Jurassic World 2’ have recently come to light, including a release date and the fact that the film will be bigger, better, and scarier than its predecessors.

Colin Trecorrow, who both wrote and directed ‘Jurassic World’, also co-wrote the sequel which will be directed by J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, A Monster Calls). With Bayona bringing his experience in the horror genre to the table we can expect to see the dark side of the dino world. Trecorrow will also serve as producer along with Stephen Spielberg. Chris Pratt (Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village) will be returning to reprise their roles from ‘Jurassic World’.

It will be more suspenseful and scary. It’s just the way it’s designed; it’s the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skillset.

There will be animatronics for sure. We’ll follow the same general rule as all of the films in the franchise which is the animatronic dinosaurs are best used when standing still or moving at the hips or the neck. They can’t run or perform complex physical actions, and anything beyond that you go to animation. The same rules applied in Jurassic Park.

Trevorrow continued to talk about about writing the script with Bayona during an interview with Jurassic Outpost.

Film has become so cutthroat and competitive; it felt like an opportunity to create a situation where two directors could really collaborate. It’s rare these days, but it’s something that the directors that we admire used to do all the time—one writes and produces and the other directs, and the end result is something that’s unique to both of them. I’m in the office right now, I’ve been here every day since July working closely with J.A., listening to his instincts, and honing the script with Derek [Connolly] to make sure it’s something that all of us believe in.

Fans should be excited. It sounds like the film will bigger, better and scarier. It would seem that ‘Jurassic World 2’ is attempting to return the franchise to its original glory.  My guess is we will also see new dinosaurs in the film. As a life-long dinosaur geek, I would like to see a  Spinosaurus, a Torvosaurus, or a Megalodon make an appearance.

We will have to wait a while to see the sequel. ‘Jurassic World 2’ isn’t set to open in theaters nationwide until June 22, 2018.
