We last updated you on the Soska Sisters’, Jen and Sylvia, remake of David Cronenberg’s film Rabid back in April of this year. There has been no word since, until now.
THR is reporting that A71 Entertainment has snagged the Canadian rights to the remake which is set to begin production next year. Paul Lalonde, Michael Walker, and Back 40 Pictures’ John Vidette are producing.

We are very honored to have been the team chosen to take on the remake of Cronenberg’s Rabid. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of remakes but that’s if they don’t have anything new to bring to the story.” The Twisted Twins said. “We have a unique perspective just because of who we are to tell the story from Rose’s eyes as well as make a commentary on the increasingly rabid world that we live in. Also, we’ve been dying to get back into body horror. Ten years into David’s filmmaking career, he remade The Fly and it brought him to this new level. This is ten years into our career and this will be our first film that gets a wide theatrical release, so it feels like a good pairing. We just have to make sure we don’t let down our country, our fanbase, and our hero. No pressure.”

In the original film, after a surgery goes awry, a woman develops a taste for human blood. Her victims are turned into vampire-zombie hybrids and soon the infection spreads into a city-wide epidemic.
I’ll be honest, I am a huge fan of the Soskas who already have quite a few titles under their fashionable belts, including American Mary, See No Evil 2 and VendettaThey are also as the hosts of GSN’s competition series HellevatorThe Soska sisters have co-starred in several films, most recently they appeared in The Blackburn Asylum. The duo also present the annual Women In Horror Massively Big PSA,  an anthology that encourages people to donate blood. Personally, I look forward to seeing their version of Rabid and we can expect it to get bloody, after all, they aren’t called “The Twisted Twins” for nothing. They have a gift when it comes to blood and gore.
Check out the trailer for the original 1977 film which is now out on Blu-ray from Scream Factory.
