This Wednesday, we will witness the season finale of “Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block”, which has turned out to be the best season so far.
Last week’s episode ended with  Zoe (Holland Roden) eating her sister’s centipede after rescuing Izzy, before escaping into the park, leaving Alice behind. I asked the series’ creator Nick Antosca about what that meant.

I don’t explain too didactically, but Zoe is struggling with we she is versus who she wants to be. She’s been given the opportunity to become someone else, which I think is attractive to all of us in some ways. Once she takes that leap, she realizes ‘Shit, maybe I shouldn’t have done this. Maybe it was better, all though scarier, to deal with the challenges I was facing throughout my life.’ That scene is a representation of Zoe realizing that she needs to go back and face the things that she’s been afraid of.”

So far, each season has featured one reoccurring theme, family. I asked Mr. Antosca about that.

It wasn’t on purpose in a sense before we started making the show, I wasn’t like ‘every season is going to feature a conflict between brothers or sisters or parents and children.’ It just sort of happened. At the outside, I planned for every season to be what I would describe as personal or psychological horror where the monsters are always rooted in something human, relatable, and personal because that is where great horror comes from. If you think about the greatest horror movies they are all family stories.  Like ‘The Exorcist’, if you think about it, is about a woman’s daughter who is changing and she’s worried about her. In ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, a woman is pregnant and she should be able to trust her husband. You have ‘The Shining’ about an alcoholic father. Most great horror is rooted in terrifying family stories.”

So, what can we expect in Wednesday’s finale?

You can expect the unexpected. Certain characters will get their comeupins. The face of the protagonist may be different from what you expected. Expect some experimental cinema.”
