Paramount has tapped Alexandre Aja to direct the creature thriller Crawl. Aja is known for having an impressive track record with horror films including The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Pirahna 3D, Maniac, and The Other Side of the Door.
THR reports that the film centers on, “a young woman, who while struggling to save her father during a Category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped inside a flooding house, fighting for her life against Florida’s most savage and feared predators (an alligator).”
The script for Crawl was originally written by brothers Shawn and Michael Rasmussen (The Ward) and re-written by Aja. Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi will produce along with Craig Flores (300: Rise of an Empire).
Crawl follows up Paramount’s’ highly-successful film A Quiet Place, which has grossed over $236 at box offices so far. Its sequel has just been announced.
