One of the most beloved zombie movies of the past 20 years is Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland. Since the movie debuted in 2009 fans have been begging for more. Next year will be the film’s 10-year anniversary, And after several false starts, it seems that Zombieland 2 is finally on its way!
Last year, the film’s writers Rhett Reese (Deadpool) and Paul Wernick (Deadpool) stated that the sequel was in development, with the original cast on board. But things have been silent since, until now.
During a discussion earlier today with Vulture, Reese and Wernick gave an update.
We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2,” Wernick said. “The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release… With the original cast, by the way.”
If things go the way we hope they will, we’ll see Zombieland 2 open in theaters October of 2019 with the original cast, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin. We’ll keep you posted.
