Jamie Foxx Is The New Spawn!

Back in May, we reported that Jamie Foxx had been offered the role of Spawn in Todd McFarlane‘s new film. Today, it has been confirmed by DeadlineJamie Foxx is our new Spawn!

See, this all started five years ago when Foxx told that he would love to pay the part. “Spawn is one, yeah. And Mike Tyson,” Foxx stated. “Those are two roles I would just love to do. I’m aggressively pursuing them.”

McFarlane has been teasing that the comic adaptation, backed by Blumhouse, will feature a lot of “big name” actors, and Foxx is definitely one of them, though the others have not been named so far.

Foxx will play the role of Lieutenant Colonel Al Simmons who is killed and returns from Hell as Spawn, a soldier in the Devil’s army.

The role will be very different than the 1997 version starring Michael Jai White. In this one Spawn will not speak and will be a darker character. The 1997 movie is best known for its terrible effects. And while the effects were awful, it did have a good storyline.

“The scariest movies, from Jaws to John Carpenter’s The Thing, or The Grudge and The Ring, the boogeyman doesn’t talk,” McFarlane told Deadline.”
