Not long ago I talked about the upcoming surreal sci-fi game “Elea”. The game’s developers, Kyodai and Sodesco were kind enough to allow me the chance to review the game early before its September 6th release.

The game itself is an episodic adventure telling the story of Elea, who’s on a journey through space to find her husband who’s gone missing along with his crewmates on a mission to find a new planet to colonize and now his ship was found but is mysteriously going through a quarantine procedure.

After completing the first chapter it should be noted that the story I’ve played will be updated on launch day with a different beginning since I don’t know exactly how much of a change there will be, I’ll forgo focusing too much on the narrative I encountered in my playthrough.

The main thing that blew me away was the graphics! Nicely detailed and textured, the colors are amazing and fit well with the sci-fi atmosphere! There’s only one thing that may put a damper on the game for some players, there are a lot of fast-moving colors, flashing lights, and jumping pictures (think the ending scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey).

The attention to detail shows as you can interact with objects by picking them up and rotating them, this comes in handy for solving some puzzles. Some items you find tucked away in compartments may surprise you.

In space, no one can hear you FUS RO DAH!

The part of the story I’m sure won’t be different is the fact that Elea is accompanied by the shipboard A.I. named Kazumi, or Kaz, who wishes to join Elea on her quest to find her husband. After the two renegades escape the ship they were on to board the derelict ship that vanished with her husband, Elea is warned by Kaz that the ship’s A.I. wanted to play…

Not like this… I hope!

I can’t wait for episode 2 of “Elea” as well for the complete update to the first chapter! When the update occurs and if there are any major changes related to the story, I’ll have an updated review but till then, this is a space trip you want to go one! Out of five stars, 4.5!
