Director Yeon Sang-ho‘s Train to Busan made waves internationally back in 2016, since then, fans of the action-packed zombie film have been chomping at the bit to see a sequel and now it’s finally on its way. Today, we have an update. Well Go USA has now acquired the distribution rights to Peninsula. for the US.
Train to Busan is timeless. Four years after its North American release, it’s still one our top-performing titles. Our fans can’t get enough of it, so when we heard about Peninsula, we knew that not only was this a title that belongs under the Well Go brand, but also a story we wanted to continue to tell.” Doris Pfardrescher, president and CEO of Well Go US states.
“Peninsula takes place four years after the outbreak of zombies that were chasing the protagonists in a bullet train to Busan. The Korean peninsula has been devastated and Jung-seok, a former soldier who managed to escape outside the country, has the mission of returning and surprisingly encounters survivors.”
Train to Busan was big, but this time around you can expect it to be even bigger, with a budget nearly doubled the original and is said to be estimated at $16 million.
Reportedly, we could see Peninsula in theaters as early as this summer. As soon as an exact release date is announced we’ll let you know.
