Break out the holy water and call a priest, Morgan Creek is about to commit blasphemy. They are reportedly rebooting the most iconic horror film in history, 1973’s The Exorcist.

The news that was hidden in a recent Deadline article. The single sentence has sent heads spinning throughout the genre.

Current Morgan Creek Projects include Stay Tuned at AMC, with a theatrical reboot of The Exorcist in the works for 2021.”

The strange part about all this, besides that anyone is attempting to reboot it, is that Morgan Creek swore on Twitter back on September 28, 2015, that, “For the record, we will never attempt to remake THE EXORCIST.” It seems they’ve decided to follow the sad trend of rebooting/remaking anything that could make a dime. There is one thing, the term “reboot” being used which implies that the story will differ from the original, but who knows.

The film is not currently featured on their “in development” list. There’s also no word if director William Friedkin will be involved. As soon as we hear something concrete about the movie we’ll give an update. In the meantime, say a prayer.
