Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is teaming up with Universal and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions for the reboot of the 2002 movie The Scorpion King in which Johnson played the title role.

The Scorpion King’ was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I’m honored and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a new generation.” Variety quotes Johnson as saying.

In the original, a desert warrior rises up against the evil army that is destroying his homeland. He captures the enemy’s key sorcerer, takes her deep into the desert, and prepares for a final showdown.

The Scorpion King served as somewhat of a prequel explaining the backstory of Johnson’s character that appears briefly in The Mummy Returns, which was plagued with terrible CGI.

The new script is being penned by Jonathan Herman, produced by Johnson and Garcia, along with Hiram Garcia, Seven Bucks’ production president.

Here’s a look back at the original trailer for The Scorpion King.
