Ahead of its April release, we’ve got the new dark, but stunning poster for the Sam Raimi-produced horror The Unholy (originally titled Shrine).

The film, from Screen Gems, was written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos who making his horror debut after making Disney films such as Beauty and the Beast (2017) and The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

“Walking Dead” actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars along with Katie Aselton (“Legion”), William Sadler (Bill  & Ted Face the Music), Diogo Morgado (The Messengers), and Cary Elwes (Princess Bride). Rob Tapert produces alongside Raimi for Ghost House Pictures.

The Unholy, based on James Herbert’s novel Shrine, published in 1983, centers on Alice, “a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister.”

Witness The Unholy in theaters on April 2, 2021, from Sony Pictures.
