We reported back in 2014 the Universal Studios has a plan in place to reboot all of their classic monster films and build a shared universe. The new collection began with ‘Dracula Untold’ and they already have several reboots in various stages of production. Now, Van Helsing is joining Universal’s list. According to Variety, Universal has hired ‘Prometheus’s’ Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010) to pen the new script.

Van Helsing, a tough vampire hunter, first appeared in Bram Stoker’s classic novel ‘Dracula’.  In the previous films and literature, Van Helsing has dedicated his life to killing Dracula. Hugh Jackman played the role of Van Helsing in the 2004 film, by the same name. In the both the 2004 film and the new version, Van Helsing will not only face Dracula and his brides, but Frankenstein’s monster and werewolves as well.
