The film is “a supernatural thriller about the generational violence that plagues a small, backwoods town, set in the 1970s, Dig Two Graves asks “how far would you go to save those you love?” After 13-year-old Jacqueline Mather (Samantha Isler) loses her brother in a mysterious drowning accident she is soon visited by 3 moonshiners who offer to bring her brother back to life but at a grim cost. As the dark history of her grandfather, Sheriff Waterhouse (Ted Levine) is unearthed the true intentions of the moonshiners come to light.”

Writer-director Hunter Adams had this to say about his film:

Dig Two Graves began as a simple conceit; a young boy wrestling with a morally complex proposition to save his grieving family. The story was set in the backwoods of Wisconsin where I grew up.
As these things often happen, the young boy was recast as a girl and the story was relocated to “Little Egypt” a wild, beautiful and tragic region in southern Illinois. And the simple conceit evolved into a decades-spanning, mind-bending tale of revenge. Influenced heavily by 1970s era thrillers like Klute and Deliverance, I have attempted to craft striking visuals that are dark, moody, sexy, and dangerous in order to create a heightened reality where magic and mysticism can freely exist.
Dig Two Graves is steeped in the traditions of myth and parable and utilizes folkloric elements to explore emotional truths about grief and loss.
Dig Two Graves is also a throwback to sophisticated teenage dramas and coming of age films.I grew up on classics such as
The Last Picture Show, Stand By Me, and Rivers Edge and was influenced by their mature and complex handling of teenage emotions. Some of the details in the story are based on observations I made growing up in a rural Midwestern town. My goal has been to weave them into a dramatic narrative that is bothentertaining and provocative. While the film is a celebration of backwoods culture, it is also a critique of the generational violence I have witnessed in rural communities. I chose to center the story around a young female protagonist to counterpoint the testosterone-driven violence. Jacqueline (aka Jake) is an active character who must find solutions to challenging problems, both physical and emotional. My intention in creating Jake is to provide a stark contrast to the one dimensional characters seen in many of today’s coming of age thrillers. Dig Two Graves is in some ways the dark, moody sibling of more glossy, conventional films like Twilight.”
