Sources are sadly reporting that today a stuntwoman, identified as Joi “SJ” Harris, is dead after an accident on the set of Deadpool 2 in Vancouver.
The scene she was filming called for her drive down a set of stairs at the Vancouver Convention Center and stop before she went into the street. During the last take she was not able to stop the bike, crossed the street and swerved to miss a crowd of people then ran into the large window. There is no word yet what exactly was the cause of death.
We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of ‘Deadpool 2’ this morning,” 20th Century Fox said in a statement. “Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
WorkSafeBC investigators are on the scene to determine exactly what went wrong, CNN reports.
Over the past couple years, multiple accidents and lives have been lost by stunt people. Only last month a stuntman died after an accident on the set of ‘The Walking Dead’. The industry desperately needs to find a way to improve working conditions and ways to help protect this talented group of people.
Filming began in June in Vancouver on the sequel to the 2016 hit starring Ryan Reynolds whose character Wade took part in an experiment hoping to cure his cancer.
Our thoughts go out to the Joi’s family, friends, and co-workers.
