MTV’s SCREAM’ is set to return with season 3 with a pretty interesting choice for an executive producer; Queen Latifah (Hairspray). Latifah partners with Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty to produce the season under her and Compere’s Flavor Unit Entertainment banner. Flavor’ owned and operated by Latifah and Compere joins with credits such as Beauty Shop’ and Bringing Down The House’ and Perfect Holiday’ already under their belt.
The series returns as well with a brand new show runner, which isn’t a first for the slasher. SCREAM’s season 1 boasted the creative team up of Jill Blotevogel and Jamie Paglia, with Blotevogel reworking the script from Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin. Blotevogel and Paglia were later replaced by Richard Register and Michael Gans for season 2 both of whom are now being replaced as well for season 3; As recently released, Brian Matthews, whose credits include The Vampire Diaries’ and Supernatural’, will take the series over for season 3. Harvey and Bob Weinstein will remain on board as exec producers via Dimension TV, as will Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Conrad. Matthew Singer and Keith Levine produce.
The third season, as previously reported will be an entire revamp of the fan favorite, with a fresh cast and plot.
MTV’s SCREAM follows the legacy of Wes Craven’s and Kevin Williamson’s SCREAM which followed the story of a teen murdered by a phone stalker, which opened up the catalyst to a serial killing spree by a Ghost-faced killer (ers).
What direction is SCREAM headed for next? According to THR a “less white” one? What does that mean for season 3? I guess we’ll all have to wait and see.
Contrary to popular belief SCREAM isn’t returning this year, the way it looks right now. Stay tuned for a premiere date!
