Social media can be an amazing place where people can connect from all over the world. Unfortunately, it is also a place where bullies and cowards hide behind a keyboard and bug you to the point where you become so sick of the harassment that you leave or delete your account. That is exactly what has happened to one Walking Dead star.
Josh McDermitt who plays the role of Eugene on the hit series The Walking Dead deleted all of his social media accounts after growing sick of near constant harassment and death threats. He posted a video just before leaving social media. This is what he had to say:
Death threats, don’t send me death threats. I’m going to report all that shit to the cops. I’m sick of it. You can hate Eugene, I don’t care. I’ll argue that you are wrong, but you can think what ever you want. When you start saying you hope I die, I don’t know if you are talking about Josh or Eugene and I’m going to report that shit, so just don’t be an asshole.
Stop complaining about everything on the internet. Okay, seriously, go spend time with your family, or friends, or loved ones, just get off the internet. Is there anything else, other than I love you? I do. I love you guys.”
While some fans have trouble distinguishing the fact that McDermitt is an actor playing a character from the fact that he is not actually Eugene, others recognize his talent.
It is a shame that anyone is bullied or trolled. Why people find the need to be that way I will never understand. It is sad that an actor has to abandon his accounts due to such childish and insane behavior. We stand beside Josh McDermitt. Hopefully he will return to Twitter and Facebook one day.
