From directors Eren Celeboglu and Ari Costa (interview) comes the brutal supernatural horror film All Fun and Games.
Children’s games are a huge part of the movie, furthering the deaths and the movie’s high body count. It is a comment on how the games of our childhood hide the darkness of their origin. One example is the game “Ring Around the Roses,” which is actually about people dying from the Black Plague. It also feels like they are a sort of commentary about the loss of innocence. The movie serves as a coming-of-age story, seeing the siblings forced to grow up overnight.
All Fun and Games has a fantastic cast of well-known, talented young actors, including Natalia Dyer (“Stranger Things”), Asa Butterfield (“Sex Education”), Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio), and Laurel Marsden (“Ms.Marvel”). All of the cast gave great performances.
If you are looking for a horror movie with a ton of action, this movie is for you. There’s constantly something happening or someone getting killed, giving little time for the viewer to relax between brutal scenes, keeping you on the edge of your seat.
The story is well thought out and executed and ties in real history and how the curse began. I think the time spent on this topic gives it another layer.
If you’re a fan of both Jump scares and tension-built scares, I have good news: it has both in abundance.
I will say this: the movie is mainly shot at night and has a lot of dark scenes and shadows, which adds to its creepiness. My advice is to watch it in the dark for the best experience.
So, the question is, is the movie any good? Yes, it is. It is totally worth watching. All Fun and Games is out now in theaters and on VOD.
