Horror Fuel’s Top Ten Horror Games Of 2023

December 27, 2023

Written by Daniel S. Liuzzi

2023 was the year of games and horror games were plenty and kept me busy this year with 44 reviews! Some games were OK, a few were forgettable, and a couple were terrible. Luckily, this list is some of the best I’ve reviewed this year!

10: Bendy and the Dark Revival

Dive head-first into the hellish cartoon world known as the cycle as you must explore the dark secrets of Disneyesque Joey Drew Studios.

9: Vlad Circus: Descent Into Madness

This 2D-pixel art mystery takes you to a mansion where you play as a down-on-his-luck clown trying to piece together the facts about the fire that destroyed the circus he called home.

8: Redfall

This First-person shooter pits you and your squad of AI teammates or three friends against vampires that have taken over a New England island, cutting them off from the rest of the world.

7: Amnesia: The Bunker

Traverse the maze of a French bunker in WWI as Henri, a French soldier who finds himself alone in the bunker, only to discover that he is not alone…

6: Ad Infinitum

Keeping with the tone of the First World War, this first-person psychological horror puts players in the boots of a German soldier struggling with the horrors of war, and the horror of the war at home.

5: Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

This was the first time the game was released in North America to the joy of fans, players must explore an abandoned island where little girls have once gone missing but were saved, and now the girls are dying one by one…

4: Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward

This game gave me so many chills that I have not completed it! You must dream and link your mind with a cursed object to defeat the evil attached to it, but as you may suspect, it won’t be easy… or safe.

3: Bramble: The Mountain King

Don’t let this fairy tale-looking game fool you, it’s dark, twisted, and bloody!

2: Dead Space

In 2011, space horror was changed, this year the remake of the cult classic lived up to the hype and even improved what we loved about the original!

1: Resident Evil 4 Remake

When it was announced they remade this, I was not 100% sure if it could work, thankfully CAPCOM proved me wrong by knocking it out of multiple ballparks with this reimaged game that kept true to the original and improved it greatly at the same time and even gave us an awesome DLC!

That’s a wrap with 2023! Here’s hoping that 2024 won’t disappoint as I look forward to checking out some upcoming titles like Alone in the Dark, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, and Senua’s Saga!
