Like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey before it, get ready for your childhood to be ruined with a horror movie that’ll have you rethinking those nostalgic Disney marathons. On the very day that Mickey Mouse has entered the public domain, filmmaker Jamie Bailey has dropped the trailer for his upcoming horror Mickey’s Mouse Trap.

In this indie horror, it’s Alex’s 21st birthday, and like any red-blooded young adult, she’s stuck working the dreaded late shift at a rundown amusement arcade. But what starts as a typical night of boredom and lousy pizza takes a horrifying turn when a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to crash the party. With her friends trapped inside, Alex must fight for survival in a twisted game of cat and mouse (pun intended).

Director Jamie Bailey isn’t shy about the film’s outrageous premise: “We just wanted to have fun with it all,” he says. “I mean, it’s Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it, and I think it shows.”

Judging by the trailer, Bailey’s brand of fun involves liberal lashings of gore, jump scares, and dark humor with a generous sprinkle of childhood trauma for good measure.

The cast features a mix of up-and-coming actors and genre veterans. Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, and Damir Kovic star. The soundtrack, composed by Darren Morze, promises a blend of suspenseful strings and electrifying synth.

While an official release date is still under wraps, Mickey’s Mouse Trap is expected to hit theaters sometime this Spring. So, mark your calendars, horror hounds and Disney die-hards alike.

A word of caution: This film is not for the faint of heart. You might want to steer clear if you’re squeamish about blood or have fond memories of Mickey Mouse as a benevolent cartoon rodent. But for those who crave a good dose of genre-bending mayhem with a side of twisted nostalgia, Mickey’s Mouse Trap is sure to be a wild ride.
