One Disney property is very popular in the world of horror this year, with Pinnochio getting not one but two horror movie adaptations. We reported earlier this week that Pinocchio: Unstrung is headed your way from the demented team that ruined your childhood with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
Now, news has come that a movie titled Pinnochio: Strings of Death is also set to premiere this year from writer-director Michael Moutsatsos, known for his films Ravage, Ravage Nation, and The Butcher.
Strings of Death takes us back to 1448, when Count Maurice, the “Impaler of Tuscany,” was finally killed, ending his horrific and brutal reign. The stake used to kill him was infused with his blood. Centuries later, Gepetto finds the hidden stake in The “Cursed Woods.” Unaware of its curse, Gepetto uses the wood to carve Pinocchio, unleashing an evil force.
The first poster for the indie film has been unleashed, and it’s creepy as hell, revealing the demented puppet with an evil grin. There is no word yet when either film will debut. But one thing is clear: after you watch the movie, you will be thankful that Pinocchio isn’t a real boy.
The story of Pinocchio first premiered in 1881 in the Giornale dei Bambini (“Children’s Magazine”) before being turned into a children’s book, “The Adventures of Pinocchio” in 1883 by Italian author Carlo Collodi. The story centers on a puppet who comes to life and wants nothing more than to become a real boy. Disney first brought the tale to life in animation in 1940.
