2025 will be a massive year for Stephen King fans, with multiple adaptations hitting both the big and small screen, including The Monkey, Fairy Tale, and The Running Man, to name a few. Another adaptation has just been announced.

Master of horror Mike Flanagan is adapting King’s high school horror story, Carrie, for a new miniseries. This is not much of a surprise. Flanagan has already adapted five of King’s tales, including the upcoming film The Life of Chuck, starring Tom Hiddleston. His other adaptations include Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game. Flanagan is also working on a new adaptation of King’s “The Dark Tower.”

Deadline reports that Flanagan’s “Carrie” series will feature eight episodes and stream on Amazon Prime Video. Trevor Macy, Mike Flanagan‘s frequent collaborator who worked with him on three King adaptations, will executive produce.

Carrie was King’s first published work, debuting in 1974. The story centers on Carrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother and unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.

The first adaptation of Carrie was released in 1976, by director Brian De Palma, with Sissy Spacek playing the title character. Since its release, there have been several remakes, reboots, and sequels. The most recent movie was released in 2013 by director Kimberly Peirce and starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. However, no remakes/reboots have ever reached the level of the original.

While you wait for more news to surface, you can watch the original Carrie movie on Prime Video and AMC+.
