When it comes to iconic horror movies, American Psycho is at the top of the list. We’ve learned today that Luca Guadagnino, the Oscar-winning director of the acclaimed 2018 remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, is set to direct a brand new take on American Psycho for Lionsgate.
Scott Z. Burns (The Born Ultimatum, Contagian) is writing the script for the new movie, which is being described as a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 novel. It will not be a remake of the 2000 movie that stars Christian Bale and was directed by Mary Harron.
In the book, a wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic, narcissistic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.
The new film will be produced by Frenesy Films and executive produced by Sam Pressman, son of Edward R. Pressman, who produced the first adaptation through his company Pressman Film.
“We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson. “Luca is a brilliant artist, and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP.”
The new American Psycho movie is currently in pre-production. While we wait for more news to surface, stream American Psycho (2000) now on AppleTV, Netflix, and Fubo. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
