Production has started on Scott Derrickson’s horror sequel, The Black Phone 2. Casting news continues to come in, with Deadline reporting that Arianna Rivas is the most recent addition to the Blumhouse film.

Arianna Rivas has been busy. She recently starred in the Hulu Original comedy Prom Dates and the 2023 movie The Harvest. Rivas can also be seen in David Ayer’s Levon’s Trade, written by Sylvester Stallone and based on Chuck Dixon’s novel. Levon’s Trade will also star Jason Statham, Michael Pena, and David Harbour. The film sees Levo leave his profession behind to work construction and be a good dad to his daughter.  When a local girl vanishes, he’s asked to return as his mythic figure in the shadowy world of counter-terrorism.

Ethan Hawke will return as “The Grabber.”  Miguel Mora returns alongside Mason Thames. Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4), Jeremy Davies (“Justified”), and Demián Bichir (The Nun) have also joined the cast.

The first film, which we called a “must-see’ in our review, centers on “Finney (Thames), a shy but clever 13-year-old abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a basement. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. They are set on ensuring that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will write and produce the sequel, with Derrickson again directing.

The original film was based on a short story by Stephen King’s son, Joe Hill. Universal and Blumhouse will release The Black Phone 2 in theaters on October 17, 2025. If you somehow missed The Black Phone, stop what you are doing and watch it now on Apple TV, Prime Video, and more. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
