Fans of “The Last of Us” have eagerly awaited its return of a second season since the series first premiered in 2023. The exact premiere date has yet to be announced, but thanks to an update from HBO, the window has been narrowed down.
Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav has confirmed that it will return in the Spring of 2025. He has also revealed that the new season will follow the latest “The White Lotus” season, which will debut this February. This puts the series debuting in April or May.
The new season will feature seven episodes. And will continue to tell the story of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey)
Creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin said “The Last of Us Part II” is much denser than the first game. They needed “natural breakpoints” to tell the story across seasons.
Druckmann’s comments suggest the show might explore original content beyond the games, following the trend established in season 1. Season 2 will undoubtedly focus on “The Last of Us Part II.“
We last reported that Emmy Award-winning actor Jeffrey Wright has been cast as Isaac, a pivotal character from the second game. Wright will portray this “quietly powerful leader” navigating the complexities of a war-torn world. The actor made a name for himself in series like “Westworld” and films like “The Batman” and “American Fiction.”
We will keep you posted as we wait for more news. In the meantime, watch season one of “The Last of Us” now on MAX or Prime Video.
