It’s that time of year again when we announce the best series of 2024. God knows we’ve watched a lot of tv this year and seen some great new shows. But we can’t list all of them, so we’ve narrowed it down to our top five favorites. Did your favorite show make it onto the list?

5. Dead Boy Detectives

More than just a lighthearted romp with the supernatural, the series promises to delve deeper. The official synopsis describes “Dead Boy Detectives” as a ghost story that explores “loss, grief, and death” through the unique perspective of these deceased teenagers and their very much alive friend, Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson).

4. Them: The Scare (season two review)

Prime Video’s anthology series follows the unsettling events of season one of “Them” set in 1950s Compton. The series ventures forward to a new decade and location. Los Angeles in 1991 serves as the backdrop for a fresh wave of terror. The story centers on LAPD Detective Dawn Reeve (Deborah Ayorinde, interview), a hardened investigator tasked with solving the brutal murder of a foster mother.

3. The Boys (season 4)

Season four finds the world teetering on the edge as Victoria Neuman’s political aspirations threaten to solidify Homelander’s power. With Butcher facing his mortality and personal demons, the team must overcome their differences to prevent a global catastrophe.

The Prime Video series has been epic, mixing humor and brutality, good and evil. Sadly, the creator, Eric Kripke, has confirmed that the upcoming fifth season will be its last.

2. Hysteria! (season 1, review)

The series, directed by Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons, Game Night), sees a beloved varsity quarterback disappear during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s. A group of high school outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band. A bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.

The eight-episode first season of Peacock’s “Hysteria!” features an all-star cast that includes Emjay Anthony (Chef), Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), and genre icon Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead) as the town Sheriff. Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn round out the cast.

1. FROM (season 3)

FROM” explores the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. The unwilling residents fight to maintain a sense of normalcy as they search for a way out, fight to survive the creatures that emerge when the sun goes down, face growing tensions, and discover new mysteries. But after all the horrors they’ve experienced, a renewed hope drives the town to continue looking for an escape.

There’s good news for fans of this edge-of-your-seat series: it’s already been renewed for season 4 by MGM+!

The series stars Harold Perrineau (interview) and an ensemble cast that includes Catalina Sandino Moreno (interview), Eion Bailey (interview), Elizabeth Saunders (interview), and Scott McCord (interview).
