This Valentine’s Day, give your valentine what they really want: a dose of campy, cult cinema from the legendary Roger Corman! This February, Film Masters proudly presents the first special edition of 2025: Corman’s 1954 classic, Monster from the Ocean Floor.

Scanned in 4K from an original 35mm camera negative, this special edition offers a stunning presentation of Corman’s inaugural feature-length film as a producer. Inspired by a Los Angeles Times article about a one-man submarine, Corman, true to his maverick spirit, convinced the Aerojet General to lend him the submarine in exchange for publicity.

Monster from the Ocean Floor features a talented cast of newcomers, including Stuart Wade and Jonathan Haze (who would become a frequent collaborator with Corman).

The film follows Julie Blair, an American artist who is vacationing in Mexico. She encounters rumors of a man-eating creature lurking beneath the waves. While marine biologist Steve Dunning remains skeptical, Julie’s encounters with the creature and the mysterious death of an abalone diver force him to confront the terrifying truth.

Special Features:

  • Audio Commentary: Featuring Tom Weaver and The Weaver Players, with archival contributions from Roger Corman.
  • Liner Notes: Written by Tom Weaver.
  • Documentaries: “Bob Baker: From Monsters to Marionettes” and “Roger Corman: Becoming a B-Movie Maker” by Ballyhoo Motion Pictures.
  • Stills Gallery: Courtesy of Mike Barnum.
  • Trailers: Original 35mm theatrical trailer and a re-cut 2025 trailer.

This special edition of Monster from the Ocean Floor is a must-have for any fan of classic horror, Roger Corman, or B-movie cinema. It arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on February 4, 2025, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
