Get ready for more skin-crawling terror! Five years after its surprising box office success, The Wretched is getting a sequel. Variety reports that directors Brett and Drew Pierce are returning to direct The Wretched 2, with production slated to begin in September 2025.

The Pierce brothers’ 2020 feature raked in over $4 million worldwide. Now, the brothers seem eager to revisit the terrifying world they created and for fans to see the story continue.

“Independent horror has been staking out its claim at the box office in the last couple of years with films like Terrifier 3 and Late Night With the Devil, and audiences are craving more from these original stories and voices,” the brothers told Variety. “It just seems like the right time to bring our Witch back as she was born out of us wanting more from our creature features that we just weren’t getting.”

The brothers promise to push the story and the body horror to “uncomfortable places.” They are excited to delve back into the mythology of The Wretched.

The original film is centered on a teenager grappling with his parents’ divorce. He stumbles on a dark truth: a terrifying thousand-year-old witch is now living beneath the skin of his next-door neighbor.

The Wretched 2 will shift the focus to a new story. This time, “A small-town deputy [who] is pulled into a rash of missing children’s cases only to discover that the skin-changing Wretch is back and has been preying upon the families of his community for a century.”

For those who missed the original, The Wretched, it is now available to stream on Shudder, and we highly recommend seeing it. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
