The wait is over, dolls! The first teaser for M3GAN 2.0, the sequel to 2022’s surprise sci-fi horror hit M3GAN, has finally arrived. The new teaser is a playful reminder of M3GAN’s iconic dance moves. However, the synopsis reveals a plot inspired by a sci-fi action classic: Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The sequel is set two years after the events of M3GAN. Gemma (Allison Williams), M3GAN’s creator, has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of AI. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
A powerful defense contractor has stolen and misused the underlying tech for M3GAN to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno). However, as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes less interested in taking orders from humans or keeping them around. But with humanity on the line, Gemma’s only option is to resurrect M3GAN and give her a few upgrades. Making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original AI bitch is about to meet her match.
Director Gerard Johnstone is back. The sequel stars Allison Williams as Gemma, Amie Donald as M3GAN (with Jenna Davis reprising her voice role), and Violet McGraw as Cady. Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps will return as Gemma’s tech teammates. Joining the cast are Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live), Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), and Grammy winner and 11-time Emmy nominee Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows).
The first M3GAN was a phenomenal success, earning rave reviews and grossing $181 million worldwide against a budget of just $12 million. James Wan, Jason Blum, and Allison Williams produce. Gerard Johnstone, Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Mark D. Katchur served as executive producers.
M3GAN 2.0 is poised to deliver another dose of thrilling sci-fi horror when it’s released by Universal Pictures in theaters on
