Adam Ambruso, known for his roles and serving as producer of films like the intense thriller Trafficked, is back and starring alongside Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Rhys Meyers in director Timothy Woodward Jr.’s upcoming adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Island of Doctor Moreau, titled Eyes in the Trees.

Eyes in the Trees follows a journalist and his crew as they venture into an isolated forest. However, they quickly find their expedition transformed into a desperate fight for survival. Vince Henway and his former protégé-turned-ex, Channing Arneau, lead their team into the heart of Monkey Ko, an island off the coast of Thailand known as “The Island of Death.” Local legends speak of forgotten government medical experiments and genetic manipulations by the enigmatic Dr. Addis. However, what they discover on the island surpasses their wildest imaginations, a product of nightmares.

I had the pleasure of talking with Ambruso about Eyes in the Trees. He teases what people can look forward to, as well as details surrounding the film and his character. Ambrus also discusses the cast, the more modern take on the story, filming in Thailand, and details that haven’t yet been revealed, such as when we will likely see it in theaters.

Ambruso and I also talked about his previous films. He not only revealed behind-the-scenes facts but also discussed being a filmmaker and some of the challenges and pleasures it can bring. For example, Ambruso mentioned that during the making of Trafficked, he and some of the team feared reprisal from some people due to the film’s subject matter, human trafficking. Ambruso starred alongside Ashley Judd, Sean Patrick Flannery, and Madison Wolfe and served as an executive producer for it.

In the true story-inspired film, three girls are trafficked through an elaborate network and enslaved in a Texas brothel. Together, they must fight to find a way to escape.
