Last night was PlayStation’s State of Play event where they showcase upcoming games as well as announcements on release dates for some of the most anticipated titles gamers are looking forward to.

To start off is the update on the mysterious Hell is Us that left many intrigued when it was introduced. This third-person action-adventure game combines melee combat, exploration, and a captivating story. Through its Player-Plattering approach incentivizing players to follow their instincts rather than markers, the title aims to return to the roots of adventure games. It encourages reflection and observation by eliminating all forms of intrusive assistance. players take on the role of Rémi, a protagonist on a quest to find his origins in a country ravaged by civil war. The country’s almost total autarky conceals a dark secret: the recent appearance of supernatural creatures reminiscent of ancient headstones and monuments in the region.

Hell is Us will be coming out on September 4th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

CAPCOM didn’t disappoint with their showing of Monster Hunter Wilds and Onimusha: Way of the Sword with new trailers and release information. With a couple of weeks to go before its launch, Monster Hunter Wilds is preparing hunters for the journey into the Forbidden Lands with its official launch trailer. The new footage of the highly anticipated action RPG provides a glimpse of the challenges that await in this ever-changing world. The trailer featured Jin Dahaad, the massive apex predator of the Iceshard Cliffs, and a mysterious Rathalos that is unlike any other “King of the Skies” hunters have seen before!

Monster Hunter Wilds will be coming on February 28th for PlayStation 5/Pro, Xbox Series X/S, and PC with CAPCOM promising the game will continue to evolve post-launch with new content being added.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword debuts its trailer featuring the game’s protagonist, legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, as well as showing gameplay footage of what players can expect when the game comes out in 2026. From the impression of the trailer, I’m stoked by the gameplay footage that shows that you can use the environment around you to fight enemies and some awesome finishers. The fact they are using the likeness of legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune is a chef’s kiss move!

Finally, the biggest news in Horror gaming is the release date of the highly anticipated entry in the Dark Pictures Anthology Series, Directive 8020. Along with the new trailer and release date comes more information about the key features of the game that will set it apart from past entries in the series. Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. Twelve light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a small sliver of hope. When the colony ship Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet, its crew soon realizes they are far from being alone. Hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must outwit their pursuers to make it home alive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.

While staying true to the formula of gameplay many fans enjoy in the Dark Pictures series, the game will feature some new mechanics:

● The Flashlight – You’ll be spending a lot of time creeping around in the dark! Just be careful when using your flashlight, as aliens can spot the beam.

● The Scanner – You’ll have a scanner at your disposal for detecting electronics and remotely activating systems, helping to distract enemies and overcome obstacles.

● The Messenger – Your messenger lets you communicate and strategize with crewmates while staying under the radar.

● The Wedge Tool – Made for opening doors… but as a last resort, can also be used as a weapon to temporarily stun enemies, giving you a chance to slip away and evade death.

Directive 8020 will be coming out October 2nd, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
