Stephen King adaptations are popping up everywhere these days, and we’ve got another exciting one headed our way! MGM+ has just dropped the first trailer for “The Institute,” their intense upcoming series based on King’s 2019 novel.
Right off the bat, the trailer features a voiceover that sets a chilling tone. “Things are going on that you would not believe.” And it gets even more unsettling when one of the children describes a horrific experiment they experienced. “It feels like a nail is being hammered into your forehead.” Yikes! The Story?
The eight-episode series is directed and executive produced by Jack Bender, behind MGM+’s hit series “FROM,” and writer and executive produced by Benjamin Cavell (“Justified,” “The Stand”). The series is a collaboration with MGM+ Studios.
“The Institute” follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis (Joe Freeman), who is kidnapped and wakes up at The Institute. However, this isn’t just any facility; it’s full of children who all arrived the same way he did and all possess unusual abilities. Meanwhile, in a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (Ben Barnes) has come looking to start a new life. However, peace won’t last for long, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.
A Talented Cast
“The Institute” also stars Mary-Louise Parker, Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Hannah Galway, Julian Richings, Robert Joy, and Martin Roach.
King himself is on board as an executive producer, alongside Bender, Cavell, Gary Barber, Sam Sheridan, and Ed Redlich. Amazon Studios and MGM produce the series.
