Get ready to fire up the long-range scanners, because we are going back to the Satellite of Love! In a move that has fans absolutely losing it, RiffTrax and Shout! Studios are teaming up to produce four brand-new episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

The Dream Team is Back

This isn’t just a tribute; Variety reports it’s a full-blown reunion. MST3K legends Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett are taking the creative lead on these episodes, officially titled Mystery Science Theater 3000: The RiffTrax Experiments.

And yes, they are stepping back into their iconic roles: Mike Nelson is back as the man in the jumpsuit, Kevin Murphy returns as Tom Servo (and Professor Bobo), Bill Corbett is back as Crow T. Robot (and Brain Guy), Mary Jo Pehl is returning as the one and only Pearl Forrester!

As Mike Nelson put it: “I truly did miss standing next to plastic puppets. It’s been too long.”

Retro Vibes in Minneapolis

The producers aren’t messing with perfection. They’re heading back to Minneapolis (the original show’s home) to film on the same kind of glorious, low-budget, practical sets we grew up loving. Expect cardboard, hot glue, and all the “cheap” charm that made the original series a cult classic.

Join the Kickstarter (and Celebrate 20 Years!)

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of RiffTrax, they’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign that’s live right now through March 16.

The Goal: $20,000. Here’s the goodnews, it’s already raised an impressive $730,000 and still has over a month to go! Here’s more good news:

The episodes are happening regardless. The campaign is about engaging fans and providing exclusive production updates.

The four movies getting the “Riff” treatment will be revealed throughout the campaign, so stay tuned for updates. The new episodes will drop later this year on the RiffTrax website. Sign up for the Kickstarter campaign now!
