Stephen King adaptations just keep coming, not that we’re complaining. The latest edition to the list is an adaptation of King’s Roadwork which is now in the works from Andy and Barbara Muschietti (IT, IT: Chapter Two), who will be producing. Pablo Trapero (The Clan) is directing. Production is set to begin next year. In the book, “It’s all coming to an end for Barton Dawes. The city’s Highway 784 extension is in the process of being constructed right across town and inexorably through every aspect of Bart’s existence—whether it’s about to barrel over the laundry plant where he makes a living, or soon to smash through the very home where he makes a life. The first trailer for IT: Chapter Two is here and it’s bloody awesome! It reveals that not only has the Losers Club reunited as adults but that Pennywise is on the loose and still killing. Director Andy Muschietti has teased the It: Chapter Two is going to be bigger and bloodier than the first installment. A comment from actress Jessica Chastain on “The Tonight Show” seems to back that up. While she didn’t share too many details she did tease one graphic scene (watch below). In the movie there’s a scene…someone said on set that it’s the most blood that’s ever been in a horror film. In a scene,” Chastain told host Jimmy Fallon. She continued, “The next day I was pulling blood out of my eyeballs. Horror heavy-hitter James Wan, the man behind The Conjuring universe, is adapting one of Stephen King‘s biggest hits, the 1975 vampire novel Salem’s Lot. THR is reporting that The Nun‘s Gary Dauberman has signed on the pen the adaptation and executive produce the film with Wan producing. This will not be the first time we’ve seen an adaptation of the spooky tale. Back in 1979, there was a miniseries version by the late, great Toby Hooper. In 2004 TNT hosted a new miniseries adaptation starring Rob Lowe. But this marks the first feature film adaptation. The tale follows writer Ben Mears, who returns to his Maine hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot. But soon, he uncovers that the town is overrun with vampires. There is no word yet if the film will include King’s expansion of the novel with the short stories “Jerusalem’s Lot” and “One for the Road”. The director and cast have yet to be announced. For the past thirty years, Stephen King fans have been hearing rumors about an adaptation of The Talisman which King co-wrote with Peter Straub. Today Amblin announced that it’s finally happening. For real this time. Mike Barker (The Handmaid’s Tale) will be in the director’s chair for the story about a young boy named Jack Sawyer and his quest through an alternate dimension filled with monsters to find the Talisman that can cure his dying mother. Chris Sparling (Buried) is penning the adaptation that will be produced by Amblin and Kennedy/Marshall Company. The Talisman joins the long list of King adaptations headed our way that includes Pet Sematary, Doctor Sleep, Mile 81 and CBS’ upcoming “The Stand” series and “Joyland.”

Directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kölsch, the duo behind Starry Eyes, have teamed up for the remake of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary. Judging by the first images shared by Entertainment Weekly, it may end up being a decent film. But until we do see some footage we’ll be wondering if “sometimes dead is better,” at least when it comes to classic horror films. This version stars Jason Clarke as Louis Creed, Amy Seimetz as Rachel Creed, Jete Laurence as Ellie Creed, and Hugo and Lucas Lavoie as Gage Creed. John Lithgow is playing the role of their neighbor Jud. Jeff Buhler wrote the script for the new version of one of Stephen King’s most popular tales. Today, we have some casting news for Mike Flanagan’s sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep. Today, THR has confirmed that Rebecca Ferguson will star as the leading lady. The talented actress has starred in films such as Life, The Snowman, The Greatest Showman, and The Girl on the Train. Ferguson joins Ewan McGregor who will play Danny Torrence as an adult, which Stephen King gave his blessing for. “Doctor Sleep takes place years after the events at the Overlook Hotel and focuses on the now middle-aged Danny who is still traumatized. He’s followed in his father’s footsteps and has problems with anger management and alcoholism. He soon gives up drinking and settles in a small town in New Hampshire. “Beauty and the Beast” star Jay Ryan has joined the Losers Club for Andy Muschietti’s It: Chapter Two. Ryan, who recently starred in the mini-series “Fighting Season” and “Mary Kills People” joins the cast as the adult version of Ben Hanscom. Ryan will star alongside Jessica Chastain (Beverly), James McAvoy (Bill), James Ranson (Eddie), Andy Bean (Stanley), and Bill Hader (Richie). Bill Skarsgard is also set to return as Pennywise. Muschietti directs from the script penned by Gary Dauberman on the film set to begin production this summer, Variety reports. The first chapter of It centered on a group of children, known as the Losers Club, who are terrorized by Pennywise the clown and forced to face their own demons to defeat him. “Chapter Two” will follow the same characters as adults who return to their hometown years later to face Pennywise once again. It: Chapter Two will open in theaters nationwide on September 6, 2019.

Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Hush) was asked last year what other Stephen King novel he would like to adapt following his fantastic adaptation of King’s Gerald’s Game (review) for Netflix. His answer, Doctor Sleep, King’s sequel to The Shining. His wish was granted. Warner Bros. announced earlier this year that the film was on its way. Today, we’ve learned that the adaptation has landed a 2020 release date. “Doctor Sleep takes place years after the events at the Overlook Hotel and focuses on the now middle-aged Danny who is still traumatized.
