One thing has been a near constant when it comes to the hit series Supernatural, just because a main character dies does not mean they won’t be back. If you are avoiding spoilers I warn you to stop reading now.
Unfortunately, in this season’s finale of Supernatural two main character’s deaths left us all shocked. Many believed the series would keep up with its tradition of bringing back characters, but it appears that’s not the case this time.
In the finale Crowley, the king of Hell, played by Mark Sheppard, sacrificed his own life to seal Lucifer in another dimension. The snarky but loved character is gone forever at least according to Sheppard himself.
On May 24th Jim Michaels, Supernatural’s co-executive producer, tweeted out a message that left fans thinking Crowley might be back one day. However, Sheppard quickly responded to the tweet, putting an end to the illusion he might return. Why, because he doesn’t want the show’s fans to be misled, which I think is honorable.
While we hate to see Sheppard/Crowley go, at least the character went out in a noble way. We will miss Crowley’s dark charm and Mark Sheppard’s talent.
As for Castiel (Misha Collins) who also died in the episode (at the hands of Lucifer in the final scene) we haven’t seen the last of him.
Jarad Padalecki (Sam) let it slip that Cas will be back in season 13. Referring to the upcoming Scooby Doo crossover episode at a convention, he mentions that he, Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Misha will all be featured (the 16th episode).
Collins also spoke to the same crowd and said, “I think we will see Cas again, but the question is, what does this death do to him?” So, don’t panic. It looks like our favorite angel will be back.
While we hate to see any character go, both Cas and Crowley have a special place in our hearts. They have been such important characters in the series. There is no doubt, Dean and Sam will feel the loss.
