Hugh Hefner’s passing to the big Bunny Ranch in the sky is a tragedy that reverberates across pop culture. While Old Hugh was of course most famous for the founding of Playboy Magazine, the only thing Hef loved more than sailor caps and silk pajamas (and ladies) was his love of classic horror movies.
Well being Hefner was 91 when he died, he was around when they were just called horror movies.
“I grew up loving the classic horror movies of the 1930s. I created a club & fanzine in my teens titled Shudder,” Hefner tweeted back in 2010. He added in a subsequent tweet, shortly thereafter, “I created a Shudder Club & Shudder Magazine
Hefner even directed his own film as a teenager, “Return From The Dead”, where he played a mad scientist.

Hefner will go down in history for his contributions to the sexual revolution. But behind the man’s man image, there was a little boy who always had a love for horror.
