Polish game developer Jujubee will take gamers on a tale of survival and adventure out of the pages of history in KURSK, a first-person survival game. Players will take on the role of a sailor and see life onboard a doomed sub from his perspective. The game will be heavily story driven but the gameplay is still a factor.
You will witness firsthand the tragic events of the Kursk submarine disaster that claimed the lives of all 118 men onboard the sub. On August 12, 2000, the Russian submarine, the Kursk, was in the middle of a training exercise. The sub was in the process of loading and firing a dummy torpedo at a flagship, at the moment the sub was to fire the torpedo, a Norwegian seismic center picked up a seismic event of 1.5 on the Richter scale.
A short time later the second event of 4.5 took place and was detected as far as Alaska, all events occurred around the Kursk’s last know position. Investigations later determined that the cause of the explosion in the torpedo room was faulty welding on the practice torpedo leaked the propellant used for the torpedo causing an explosion that then detonated five live torpedo warheads.
The game more than likely will explore the events leading up to the test firing and the events afterward when the surviving sailors waited to be rescued, it’s safe to say that if you’re someone who’s claustrophobic that this story is truly horrifying. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
