It’s been a minute since we’ve had an update about the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre installment being produced by Fede Alvarez, the man behind Don’t Breathe and the Evil Dead reboot. Today we can report that the movie is a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 classic.
During a conversation with The Boo Crew Podcast, Alvarez confirmed it. He also revealed that the movie is set many years after the events of the first film and that we will see Leatherface as an older man.
It is a direct sequel, and it is the same character. It is old man Leatherface.“
He went on to describe the movie as “old school”.
“Everything is classic, old school gags.A lot of the approach that we had with Evil Dead – never VFX, to do everything on camera. It’s a very old school approach to filmmaking. Vintage lenses… it’s very similar to the original film.”
Cinematographer turned director David Blue Garcia is helming the film written by Chris Thomas Devlin. Ryan and Andy Tohill were originally set to direct but were asked to step away just a week into filming.
Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Olwen Fouéré, Alice Krige, Jacob Latimore, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Sam Douglas, William Hope, and Jolyon Coy star.
