Did They Fix It? Game & Update Review: ‘Cyberpunk 2077’

It’s been a long and bumpy road for CD Projekt Red after it released Cyberpunk 2077 a year ago to a Space X style disastrous launch (yep, I went there) that resulted in a major lawsuit ( four separate class-action lawsuits that were combined into one mega lawsuit) filed by fans and investors as the game failed to deliver on a couple of years of hype as the game at launch was described by many as incomplete and accusations were made against CDPR for knowingly releasing an incomplete game.

It’s been just over a year, and several updates later, CDPR released Cyberpunk 2077 to next-gen consoles along with a major update promising to fix major issues. Did they really fix anything? Let’s see.

I’ll admit, I did not play the game when it did first come out, another claim made against CDPR is that they kept many gaming journalists in the dark at launch and only gave review codes to certain gaming press outlets while the majority of them went to youtubers and streamers to “influence” sales, so I can’t really compare what I’ve experienced now compared to then.

My overall experience with Cyberpunk 2077 is heavily mixed. Since the game’s launch, though it may be hard to believe, I have not read other reviews for it but have read articles in relation to the game’s fallout, I made my notes while playing the game to compare with earlier reviews made to see if there were any improvements. After making comparisons I will say, there have been SOME improvements. If you’re expecting a flawless masterpiece, no it’s definitely not it.

The game has randomly crashed on me, though the incidents were far between it’s still not good. I see NPCs walking on air sometimes, and some even walk through objects/buildings. Vehicle controls are very bad as turning is very stiff. There are dialogue issues in some parts where V ( the main character) and another character are talking over one another. items clip through walls. I have fallen through the world map twice now. We’re still a bit far from the amazing graphics and lighting we saw from the promotional screenshots and E3 trailers.

My biggest pet peeve about this game, is the NSFW adult content appears to have been made flawless (jiggle physics, floppy hogs, lewd art/advertisements, sex toys scattered throughout night city that is made to look more realistic than a tray of blurry low-res pizza sitting next to V on a table in Tom’s Diner) shows where CDPR put their priorities.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 better now than last year? maybe but at the same time still unacceptable given how long the game’s been out. compared to what I’ve seen that’s been said, what I’ve played was different in a good way, but I still see some issues remaining and could argue that the game should have still been in production right now and have a projected release of next year but that’s just my two cents.

On my scale of 1-10, I give it a 5 as it has come far with fixes but still has some ways to go to make it up to people they burned at launch a year ago. You can read the complete list of fixes made by Patch 1.5 HERE
