Focus Entertainment and its studio Deck13 Interactive have released their action RPG Atlas Fallen and were awesome enough to send over a copy for me to check out, a massive thank you to them for that as well as a thank you for being OK with the review coming out a bit late, so let’s check out Atlas Fallen!
Atlas Fallen takes players to a fantasy world covered in sand and with corrupt gods. Players take on the role of the “Unnamed” a person whose station in society is so low, they have no name, who becomes the unlikely wielder of a special gauntlet that grants them powers to fight the monsters stalking the lands.
The controls for Atlas Fallen are surprisingly easy to remember and handle with good response which is great for the hack-and-slash style combat (which I love). The soundtrack is pretty good and fits well with this twist on a fantasy world we find ourselves in. The voice acting is pretty good too which is something I have to say for Focus Entertainment, they have strong voice talents.
Gameplay in Atlas Fallen is actually quite fun if you’re the type that like hack-and-slash kind of games. I like that your character is completely customizable along with the clothing that you find in the world, you can change their colors to make it your own OR to make yourself stand out if you play alongside a friend. I forgot to mention that Atlas Fallen can be played solo or co-op with a friend which can add a bit more to your adventure. You can find or unlock different skills and abilities for your character to suit your playstyle. I also like that you can explore this open world and find secrets and side missions. I also like the creative way how you travel around this world by surfing on the sand, that’s actually kind of cool to be honest, no mounts needed!
One thing that I really love, that I have not seen in any game I’ve ever played, and this might seem weird, is you can press a button in your journal section that will mark all your new notes and entries as read, totally removing all exclamation point symbols by the entries!
Overall I’m having a lot of fun in Atlas Fallen. The combat style, exploration, side missions, story, and even a photo mode, I really like it all. I actually am looking forward to diving back into the game and playing around some more when I get the chance! With fun gameplay, good voice acting, a creative concept, and easy controls, Atlas Fallen ranks high but some polishing of the graphics. some minor glitches, and wanting a larger world to play in affect the final score slightly. On my scale of 1-10, Atlas Fallen is a 9!
Atlas Fallen is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
