At Fear Fest 2023, attendees were given a surprise on the first day of the event, a game launch. That game was Pleasantly Friendly Games and Feardemic’s No Son of Mine. The game was first launched on PS5, Switch, and PC at the time but has recently been released on Xbox, and Feardemic was awesome enough to send over a copy (thanks by the way!).
No Son of Mine is a first-person survival horror where you search for clues about your mysterious pursuer, a demonic child. No Son of Mine‘s controls are limited, so they’re simple to remember. The audio is decent and the soundtrack helps set the mood, especially when things get spookier.
No Son of Mine‘s gameplay is relatively simple, you explore the map looking for clues as they help you progress, as well as offer you some insight into the story. You acquire a red lens that allows you to see things you can’t see normally as well as seeing the demonic child. If the child is going to attack you, you can normally tell by the environment (lights turning off, that sort of thing) as well as by paying attention to the only weapon you have in the game, the CB 9000, it indicates when the entity is near/about to attack and you can either hide OR fight back using both the CB 9000 and red lens.
Overall, No Son of Mine is a decently put-together game for a one-man development team, hence why I’m not going in hard on the title. This is something you would play to pass the time as you wait for another game to download or want to play something and not get too invested in it so you come back to it sometime later. On my scale of 1-10, No Son of Mine is an 8!
No Son of Mine is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and now Xbox Series X/S
