Today, Blumhouse’s latest fright-filled offering, Imaginary, is coming home. And it might forever change the way you look at childhood toys and children’s imaginary friends.
Innocence to Obsession
The film follows Jessica (DeWanda Wise), who has returned to her childhood home with her family. Her young stepdaughter, Alice (Pyper Braun), unearths a hidden treasure in the basement—a dusty teddy bear named Chauncey. What starts as harmless playtime quickly takes a turn for the worse as Alice becomes increasingly fixated on her new “friend.” Their playful interactions become progressively disturbing, escalating in intensity and revealing a darkness lurking beneath the surface.
Not Your Average Play Thing
As Alice’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic and dangerous, Jessica becomes alarmed. However, the true horror unfolds as she discovers the horrifying truth: Chauncey is no ordinary toy. This seemingly cuddly companion is possessed by a malevolent entity, blurring the lines between play and possession in a terrifying way.
A Talented Cast and Crew
Imaginary boasts a talented cast, including Wise, Braun, Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Veronica Falcon, and Betty Buckley. The film is helmed by director Jeff Wadlow, who also co-wrote the script alongside Greg Erb and Jason Oremland. With Blumhouse and Wadlow at the helm, the film promises a genuinely haunting experience that transcends the genre, exploring themes of family, fear, and the darkness that can reside within the human mind.
