Regarding supernatural horror, 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby is a classic. Like many classics these days, it’s getting a prequel, Apartment 7A, joining The First Omen and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.

The film, Apartment 7A, is set in 1965. “Ozark” star Julia Garner plays a professional dancer who moves into the apartment after a career-ending injury. Soon, she is drawn to a dark power emanating from her next-door neighbors, who promise her “a shot at fame.”

Diane Wiest, Jim Sturgess, and Kevin McNally co-star, along with Andrew Buchan. Regarding who is in the director’s chair, that would be Natalie Erika James, who made her film debut with Relic, which we called “terrifying” in 2020. Christian White and James reunited to pen the script for Apartment 7A. A Quiet Place’s John Krasinski will produce.

In Rosemary’s Baby, Mia Farrow stars as a young wife hoping to become a mother. Her husband (John Cassavetes), an actor, suddenly becomes a smashing success. However, it comes at a horrible cost. He’s allowed his wife to be impregnated with the antichrist unknowingly.

Directed by Roman Polanski, Rosemary’s Baby is one of the best horror films ever made. In fact, the Library of Congress preserved it in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” That is a rarity for horror films. It’s no surprise that the remake bombed. However, a prequel may be the ticket if it pays homage to the legacy of the classic while expanding the story.

Be ready to witness evil in Apartment 7A, premiering on Paramount+ this October. Watch Rosemary’s Baby streaming now on Paramount+ or Prime Video.
