Sobaka Studio is known for its hack-and-slash beat-em-up style games and coming soon will be their latest entry, KIBORG which will take players to a prison planet where they’ll have to fight their way through waves of enemies as they lead a resistance. Till players get to enjoy that, Sobaka has released (for free) the prequel to the game, KIBORG: Arena!

KIBORG: Arena puts players in the prison planet’s arena where they’ll fight for money and glory against waves of enemies where dying is part of the gameplay which allows them to then upgrade their character.

Now, onto the game itself! when it comes to the controls, they respond well and are easy to master. The only issues I’m having with the controls are with the aiming and enemy lock-on. To be honest, yes there are ranged weapons (guns) but I prefer fighting hand-to-hand and melee weapons over long-range weapons.

I enjoy the game’s art and the design of both our hero and the enemies he’s facing. The cybernetic enhancements our hero can earn during gameplay look awesome.

Gameplay-wise, it’s addictive! I love hack-and-slash style games so this scratches the needed itch I have for these games. Being a rouge-lite means death is part of how you advance and make the character stronger. the only major negative thing I can say about KIBORG: Arena is that it freezes and crashes frequently. I mean, I can let that slide since this is a free game, but it does get annoying that as you’re advancing and kicking a lot of ass, the game just stops. Ruins the flow.

Overall, I really enjoyed KIBORG: Arena and I’m looking forward to seeing what the main game has in store for us, I hope that the bugs I’ve noticed while playing will be fixed eventually for both this prologue and the main game.

KIBORG: Arena is available now for free on Xbox and PC with plans for a PlayStation release soon.
