From male strippers battling the occult to an invisible dinosaur wreaking gory havoc, the U.K.’s Dead And SudBuried film festival’s 2024 edition has something for fright-fare fanatics of all stripes this October.  Following is the official press announcement.

It’s Halloween season again for Sudbury, Suffolk’s with the return of its very own horror film festival Dead And SudBuried, now with an earlier start, increasing its run time to three full days of creepy fun. The event returns over the weekend of 4th to 6th October with a horror-packed schedule featuring 9 brand new festival circuit features including a UK premiere, 9 classic movies and 18 new horror shorts plus Director/Cast Q&A’s, food trucks, more merchandise and much more over three scary days.

The Dead And SudBuried Horrorthon began life in 2016 in Suffolk in the small market town of Sudbury as a celebration of classic horror movies, screening seven classics over a single day in the intimate venue of The Quay Theatre. Since these auspicious beginnings, it has returned each year, building on success and growing each year until 2021, when the fifth event expanded to two days, adding brand new festival features including UK premieres, horror shorts from around the world, live director/cast Q&A’s, merchandise and bringing in a bigger audience of attendees from all over the UK. The sixth event saw growth to 3 days and now with the eighth Horrorthon, the days start earlier, cramming even more horror into the weekend.

The brand new, unreleased features are made up of Straight On Till Morning, where a romantic road trip turns very grim for a new couple; the UK comedy Members Club, billed as a horror-comedy twist of The Full Monty from the makers of ManFish and featuring a special guest appearance by Peter Andre; the hilarious and brilliant crowd-pleaser The Invisible Raptor, which ironically is a ‘must see’; the shocking and dark psychological chiller Cara; British special effects laden vampire road movie Bogieville; plumbers take on a toilet monster in the Canadian creature feature Scared Shitless; the nostalgic 80’s throwback to the days of VHS and video rental libraries The Last Video Store; the dark, gritty spin on a cannibal veteran returning from war with a Yojimbo spin in the shape of Protein and the Italian gory, spectacle of The Well featuring Terrifier 2’s Lauren LaVera. Director/cast Q&A’s are planned after the screening for a number of features including Members Club, Cara, Bogieville, and Protein.

The classic horror movies were selected over the Summer through online voting over social media and this year feature the Amicus classic Asylum, sci-fi remake Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (78), Vincent Price/Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee starring Scream And Scream Again, 80’s slasher classic The Burning, cult phenomenon Basket Case, the Lucio Fulci Italian classic The House By The Cemetery, gory sequel Halloween III, Joe Dante’s Jaws-inspired Piranha and Brian De Palma’s neo-giallo suspense thriller Dressed To Kill.

The line-up is completed with 18 stunning horror shorts from all over the world, each playing with one of the features. In addition to movies, there will be horror memorabilia on sale, giveaways, local discounts with retailers and restaurants, food trucks, a fully licensed bar and more surprises planned throughout the weekend.

Andy Piper, Organiser, says ”Dead and SudBuried started nine years ago as a small celebration of horror movies, solely as a birthday present to myself, so to see it grow to a fully-fledged horror film festival, bringing brand new unreleased as well as classic horror movies to our lovely hometown is amazing. We’re so lucky to have an event of this scale featuring these amazing movies, that have played and won awards at the most prestigious and famous horror film festivals around the world like FrightFest, Fantasia, Sitges and more. It seems unbelievable to have created this monster that’s now listed alongside huge, established events and to have cast and directors coming along to meet our audience and take part in Q&A’s after traveling the world, premiering their movies at huge festivals!”

Andy continues “Dead And SudBuried is a dream event for fans of horror movies; from humble beginnings, it’s become something huge, part of the horror festival calendar and it’s taking place right here in little old Sudbury! If you love horror, you should be here.”

The House That Dripped Dead And SudBuried: Horrorthon VIII takes place at The Quay Theatre, Quay Lane, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 2AN, starting at Midday on Friday 4th October through to Sunday 6th October 2024. Single day tickets start at £18 and weekend tickets are £40 plus booking fees. More information, full schedule, film guide and tickets can be found at www.deadandsudburied.co.uk
