Despite sweeping critical acclaim and earning more Emmy nominations than any other Prime Video series this year, “Spider-Noir“ has been surprisingly axed after just a single season.
The live-action Marvel adaptation debuted with a stellar 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90% audience approval rating. This prompted industry observers to infer that heavy production costs were the primary culprit behind the unexpected curtain call.
A Hard-Boiled Take on a Marvel Favorite
The series stars Nicolas Cage in his first leading television role. He plays Ben Reilly, a weary, down-on-his-luck private eye navigating 1930s New York City. However, he’s forced to confront his past life as the city’s sole superhero following a devastating personal tragedy. Cage delivered a hard-boiled performance backed by a heavy-hitting ensemble.
The main cast included Brendan Gleeson, Lamorne Morris, Jack Huston, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Abraham Popoola. Guest appearances included Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Amanda Schull, and Amy Aquino.
